Aqua Teen Hunger Force burst onto Comedy Central's Adult Swim with a bang. Sevens glorious seasons later, the show has not lost its roots and continues to entertain cable and satellite TV subscribers across the continental United States. It is still every bit as much the stoner comedy as when the show started. For viewers that require satirical wit and wordplay, Aqua Teen Hunger Force may not be the show for you. But it is the perfect comedy for those who just want a few superficial laughs that can only came by way of irrational violence.
Aqua Teen Hunger Force centers on a milkshake, very cleverly named Shake and his two roommates, a box of fries, named Frylock, and a giant meatball named Meatwad. Shake fills the role of the asshole character who never listens, Frylock plays the role of the rational, scientific genius while Meatwad fills the role of the simple minded, lovable one of the group. Despite their name, the trio only attempted to fight crime in the first episode before giving up in order to pursue their weekly ridiculous objectives. The show normally starts with Shake's irrational behavior causing some sort of dilemma for the trio. His destructive plans also normally inflict some type of physical damage on Meatwad.
Despite the overall superficial content of the show, there are a few episodes that are written quite well. For example, the episodes that feature the German aliens better known as "Emory" and "Oglethorpe" are simply genius. In the German aliens' first episode, they attempt to lure the Aqua Teen Hunger Force to their ship in order to "melt them into fluid" and then subsequently "laugh on into the night." While this might seem to be a ridiculous plot to base an episode on, coupled with crazy German accents, the irrationality of these two characters intertwines beautifully with the stupidity of the Aqua Teen Hunger Force, primarily Shake and Meatwad. The German alien characters have been two of the most popular reoccurring characters to appear on Aqua Teen Hunger Force. Their only competition is the "Moonnites" a set of two, two-dimensional, aliens from the moon named "Nik-nok" and "Err." The incredible popularity of the German aliens and Moonnites led to the beginning sequence featuring the two sets of aliens pulling pranks on each other for three complete seasons. To date, they remain the most popular supporting characters to come from this show. Note to loyal fans – there is no spin off yet, but hopefully there will be one in the near future.
Overall, Aqua Teen Hunger Force delivers exactly what it promises – the prototypical stoner TV show that centers on physical violence to get laughs. If you are in the market for some mindless entertainment, you are in luck, because Aqua Teen Hunger Force is the right show for you. Aqua Teen Hunger Force season 7 airs on Comedy Central's Adult Swim every Sunday night. Stay tuned to your cable and satellite TV's so you don't miss out on the fun!
