Marilyn Monroe: "She was a lonely girl"
So said the headlines of my local newspaper, Monday, August 6th, 1962, after his death on August 4.
How can this be? I was a kid yourself: this could understand, but Marilyn?
Growth in the 50s, I was convinced that my house was the original forerunner of the word dysfunctional. My mom and dad separated when I was 5 years old, things were wild and crazy for a long time, my older brother had his friends for support while I had the movies and Marilyn Monroe.
She represented to me the ultimate in femininity, kindness and honesty, and being only a child, I knew I would never hurt you, not as "real" adults. All around, I felt safe .... and in the movies at least. In those years I lived in the movies and always had the days until the movie came about following Marilyn.
I never tired of watching again and again. Even in "Niagara" when the evil she played Rose Loomis, I knew it was not really bad, I just wanted a young husband and to have fun. When she was strangled in the end only I had to sit and watch it all again to make sure it was okay, and she certainly was the one that moved away from the eye of the camera and create a sense of instant film .... the longest walk ever filmed! That was Marilyn Monroe.
Marilyn became my role model. If I could rise from his impoverished background broken homes and orphanages, so I could I. As stated many times, "I'm not interested in money, I just want to be wonderful." hopes. And finally of her life, she was alone, a baffling mystery to some. Where were all the parties of champagne dreams of becoming "just a person quite happy "as she had done to us all? These were the words written on a note found incomplete to Joe DiMaggio ..." if he could do only a person completely happy. "Does it not seem quite fair.
Marilyn Monroe will always live in my heart and always in the movies
